I began teaching for Portsmouth Public Schools in 1974 and have taught grades one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, IGP
(individual group placement, computer programming, and adult education. My computer lab was featured on a two-page
spread in the Feb. 4, 1990 edition of Currents. The article predicted "Revolutionary changes ahead for schools."
Notice the students sit in an L-shape so the teacher can see all the monitors working from the position where this
picture was taken, and the all the students can see the teacher's monitor from the TV in the corner. A red light automatically
came on five minutes before each class ended to remind students to save their work.

Below was my 7th grade class at Cradock Middle School
where I have really enjoyed teaching U.S. History or Civics and Economics in a textbook- and paper-free environment for the
past eight years. I will be teaching 6th grade U.S. History during the 2003-2004 school year. My students take their textbooks home the first day of school
to use as a resourse, and do not bring them back to class until the end of the year. I have not used the blackboards,
overhead, pull-down maps or worksheets in the past eight years.
With the exception of SOL test every-other week, every
minute of our class time consists of electronic presentations, activities and discussions with slides, videos, and steros.
My students work in teams, are individually graded daily, and receive their accumulative overall average for both the 9-weeks
and year daily.
